Intent

At OLMC, we believe that P.E. and sport plays an important role in helping children lead healthy and active lives, with the potential to change children’s lives for the better. We recognise the importance P.E. play in the curriculum and are committed to providing all children with the opportunities to engage fully in Physical Education. The aim of our P.E. programme is to develop children’s basic physical competencies, build confidence in their ability and build the foundations for a lifelong love of sport, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. P.E lessons encourage children to compete against themselves and others whilst being challenged to improve their physical, social, emotional and thinking skills. These skills are embedded in the heart of our planning and our objectives in the teaching of P.E. align with the National Curriculum. In KS1 and KS2, all children have regular timetabled P.E. sessions totalling two hours per week. We use qualified and suitably trained sports coaches, working alongside the teacher, for one of these hours.

Implementation

We have recently adopted Get Set 4 P.E. scheme to teach our P.E. across school. The scheme ensure that we fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum, as well as ensuring that children are given a wealth of opportunities to develop their physical movement skills. Each class completes one Get Set 4 P.E. lesson a week, delivered by the class teacher, with the other lesson being based on developing team games, moving on to more competitive games in KS2 – these being delivered by the specialist sports coaches. The timetabling for the sports coaches is done on rota basis and we ensure that each class gets the same amount of time across the academic year to this high-quality provision.

Impact

P.E is taught as a basis for lifelong learning, where the children have access to a wide range of activities in the belief that if taught well and the children are allowed to succeed, then they will continue to have a physically active life. We strive to achieve a high-quality P.E. experience which inspires all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. We provide opportunities for children to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities including residential experiences build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ€οΈ WOW, WOW, WOW! WHAT A WEEK! β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

I cannot even begin to explain just how PROUD I am of every single child at our school following this week’s charity running challenge! 🌟

The children have completely BLOWN ME AWAY! 🀩

I honestly never expected so many children to complete 12 laps (5K) in just 30 minutes! Yet we had 3 or 4 children in EACH class achieve this incredible milestone! πŸ‘πŸ‘

πŸ… A HUGE shout-out to Edward in Y6, who smashed an unbelievable 17 LAPS – the most in the whole school!

πŸ… And to our little superstar Vinny in Reception, who completed an amazing 12 LAPS! What an achievement for such little legs! ❀️

But do you know what made me proudest of all?

It wasn’t the number of laps. It was watching children run holding hands, encourage each other, cheer their friends on and dig deep to keep going. πŸ₯Ήβ€οΈ

They showed resilience, determination, kindness and teamwork – everything this challenge was about!

Every child understood WHY we were running. For a very special boy, Owen, and in recognition of the incredible support this wonderful Sheffield charity has also given Oscar Martin. ❀️

Watching our children push themselves, not just for their own achievements but for others, has been something really special.

Every single lap mattered. Every single child made a difference. 🌟

I have absolutely LOVED watching each class give it their all this week.

OLMC, YOU HAVE DONE US PROUD! ❀️

πŸ™ PLEASE, PLEASE DONATE! If you haven’t already, please head over to Arbor and support this wonderful cause. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference.

One very, very proud Mrs Elsmore! β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ#owensoctoberchallenge #OLMC#pact PACT SheffieldOur Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary, Doncaster
